Founded in Aug.2007 from the base on the original Foreign Language Department, School of Foreign Languages (SFL), Sias International University is a professional school of foreign language teaching and academic research. At present, it has four departments: Business English Department, Translation Department, Japanese Department and College English Teaching Department, and four majors: business English, English translation, English education and business Japanese, involving four languages: English, Japanese, French and Germany. Its total student number is 2239. The College English Teaching Department undertakes the public English teaching for the whole university.

 

In SFL, The English language and literature discipline is one of the key discipline of Henan Province, and "College English" is a high-quality resource-sharing course of Henan Province. English major was approved as the brand specialty construction among private universities in Henan Province in October 2015,and the fourth teaching and research office of  College English Dept. was approved as the excellent teaching unit of  Henan Province in August 2017. Since 2012, it has recruited master's degree candidates in English language and literature. There are three institutes: Translation Institute, Institute of Foreign Literature and Culture and Institute of Foreign Languages. It has abundant educational resources and an internationalized team made up of Chinese and foreign teachers with reasonable structure.

 

Currently, there are 180 full-time teachers (114 Chinese and 66 foreigners). Among the Chinese teachers, there are 12 professors and 36 deputy professors, with the 42.11% proportion of senior titled teachers. There are 6 with doctorate degree (2 of them are foreigners), 132 with master degree (26 of them are foreigners), and 30 with overseas education background. There are 7 postgraduate supervisors. In addition, there are 5 members from academic groups (1 director of the Chinese Cognitive Linguistics Research Association,3 members of the World Chinese Rhetoric Association, 1 Executive director of the International Eco-translatology Studies).In SFL there are many excellent Chinese and foreign teachers, the abundant original books, periodicals and audio-visual materials in foreign languages, a superior foreign language teaching environment, which enable students to have a comprehensive development on their basic skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating. The complementary advantages and integration between Chinese and foreign cultures and education resources enable students to broaden their horizons, cultivate them with internationalized consciousness, innovative spirit and practical ability, and make them have unique advantages in the fierce competition of the postgraduate entrance examination and employment at home and abroad, which highlights its distinctive characteristics of internationalized education.

 

It attaches great importance to teaching and scientific research. Guided by the philosophy of integrating Chinese and western education, it adheres to the goal of cultivating internationalized compound application-oriented talents in foreign languages and firmly takes the improvement of teaching quality as the lifeline of the sustainable development. And it implements strictly the training programs, syllabus and curriculum plans, standardizes teaching management, deepens the teaching reform, and strengthen the practice, which have effectively promoted the teaching quality, and improved the comprehensive quality of students' professional basic theories, innovation consciousness and practice ability. Its school-running characteristics and educational achievements have had certain influences and attracted much attention both at home and abroad.

 

From 2013 to 2018, the SFL teachers undertook one national project, 21 provincial or ministerial projects, 126 prefecture-level projects, winning 102 prefecture-level research awards. Besides, there are 156 monographs, translations, textbooks and 482 academic papers published.

 

It insists on the ideas of “students first “and “all for students”. While standardizing the management and strengthening the education of students' political thoughts, ideals and beliefs, moral quality, law and discipline and mental health, it has fully respected the students and helped them achieve sound development in their personalities. For promoting the gradual formation and continuous improvement of students' comprehensive quality, practical skills and interpersonal skills to adapt to the future diversified employment requirements, it systematically organizes the students to take part in healthy and diversified extracurricular activities like speech, debate, performance, sports and recreation, and at the same time encourages the students to actively participate in large-scale campus cultural activities such as the Science and Technology Festival, International Cultural Festival, Homecoming Day, and Women's Growth Forum, having formed a rich and colorful cultural atmosphere where Chinese and foreign cultures meet and merge.

 

From 2013 to 2018, its graduate employment rate is over 95%, ranking first among similar institutions in China. They are engaged mainly in domestic and foreign business, translation, foreign affairs and education in more than 10 countries overseas and more than 20 provinces domestically, who are highly praised by their employers.
